Wedding Dress Trends During the Pandemic : Simple Styles for Outdoor Wedding
Hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, wedding business owners shared how they managed to survive until today. One of them is Metta Febriyan, a wedding service entrepreneur and social media influencer. Metta Febriyan started her business just recently, at the beginning of the pandemic, end of year 2019. She began offering wedding services, specifically renting wedding gowns to brides and their families. Though her business was still new, fortune smiled on her, as she was able to serve many brides and grooms in the Jabodetabek area and even internationally. Her clientele included celebrities, entrepreneurs, and government officials.
Throughout her journey, Metta has built a collection of about hundreds gowns, including simple dresses for pre-wedding shoots, versatile evening dresses typically worn by the bride's family, traditional attire including kebaya and cheongsams, also wedding dresses.
"The system is flexible, clients can either rent or purchase. So, the dresses designed with new styles according to the client's request can be rented or bought," said Metta Febriyan, boutique owner of Metta Febriyan Couture, when contacted recently.
Even during the pandemic, Metta continued to thrive. Although wedding events now have regulations to prevent crowds and minimize the risk of COVID-19 transmission, her business still flourished. Brides-to-be have different tastes when it comes to choosing their wedding attire. During the pandemic, many people opted for simple yet elegant wedding dresses.
"Most of them choose dresses that are simple and focus on body silhouettes. They also look for outfits that suit the theme of outdoor or intimate weddings," she explained.
Metta can be considered one of the lucky ones who started a wedding service business during the pandemic. She also shared some motivation, especially for beginners who want to build a similar service business. According to her, anyone looking to start a business should not be discouraged, especially those without a high fashion education.
"The most important thing is determination and passion. While talent does have some influence, it can be honed through experience. When starting a business, it is essential to study the market behavior to understand your target audience." She claimed.
"Place yourself in the consumer's position. This will help you think critically and understand what people generally like and are searching for," she concluded.
